Canada Federal Skilled Worker (Permanent Residence) Immigration
Federal Skilled workers are people who are selected as permanent residents based on their ability to become economically established in Canada.
As of January 2015, Federal Skilled Worker applications are being processed under new system called Express Entry immigration selection system for immigration to Canada. For immigration under this program, .applicants must first make an expression of interest in immigrating to Canada by creating an online Express Entry profile.
Eligibility Criteria
FSW applications are evaluated for eligibility according to the criteria set out below. For applicant’s application to be eligible for processing, applicant must:
Have at least one year of continuous full-time or equivalent paid work experience in the past 10 years in a skilled occupation (National Occupational Classification skill lever 0, A or B); or
Have a valid offer of Arranged Employment In Canada with a Labour Market Impact Assessment ; and
Pass a minimum threshold of language skill in one of Canada's two official languages, English or French.
In addition to it, Federal Skilled Worker applicants must acquire at least 67 points under 100-point grid selection factors criteria of Citizenship and Immigration Canada's immigration.
Those selection factors are listed below. Click each factor to learn more information:
Education: Applicants can be granted up to 25 points for formal education.
Language Skills: Applicants can be granted up to 28 total points (24-first official language, 4-second official language).
Work Experience: Under this factor, Applicants can be granted up to 15 points for certain paid, skilled work experience in the last 10 years, but they must attain at least a score of 9 points in order to qualify.
Age: Applicants can be granted up to 12 points based on their age at the time of application submission.
Arranged Employment: Applicants can be granted up to 10 points if they have offer of arranged employment in Canada that meets certain requirements of CIC.
Adaptability: Applicants can be granted up to 10 points for a number of factors that show that they are adaptable to settle in Canada.
After meeting all these criteria, when the applicant is selected for invitation to apply, he or she has to show sufficient settlement funds to support him or herself and any dependents after his or her arrival in Canada. Lastly, Applicants and their dependents must also undergo medical examinations and have to obtain security clearances as final phase of the Canadian immigration application process.
