Permanent Residency Requirements
Every Canadian permanent resident has the right to enter and live in Canada.
Canadian permanent residents must meet certain residency obligations to maintain your status as a permanent resident. To meet these residency obligations, permanent resident must be physically present in Canada for at least 730 days (2 years) in every 5-year period. This means, permanent resident can spend a total of up to 3 years outside of Canada during a 5-year period. However, if resident leave the country for an extended period of time, he/she can accumulate residency days if he/she is:
Travelling with a Canadian spouse or common-law partner, or are a child accompanying a parent, or
Employed on a full-time basis by any Canadian organization or business or the Public Service of Canada, or
The spouse, common-law partner or child of a permanent resident who is outside of Canada and employed on a full-time basis by a Canadian business or the Public Service of Canada.
If permanent resident is outside of Canada and do not meet residency obligations, immigration officers abroad may inform him/her in writing about lost of permanent residence status. In this case permanent resident can appeal this decision, then the officer may consider humanitarian and compassionate reasons before making a final decision about your permanent resident status.

Enjoy most social benefits that Canadian citizens receive, including health care coverage,
Live, work or study anywhere in whole Canada,
Eligible to apply for Canadian citizenship after living for 4 years in Canada,
Have protection under Canadian law and the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
Must pay taxes and respect all Canadian laws at the federal, provincial and municipal levels.
Permanent Residents Not Allowed
Elect a vote or run for political office,
Hold some professional jobs that need a high-level security clearance.
Permanent Resident Card Renewal
A permanent is given the Permanent Resident Card (PR Card) as a proof that he/she is a Permanent Resident of Canada (in case the card holder travels outside Canada). The card holder would require the PR Card if re-enters Canada. Most permanent resident (PR) cards are valid for 5 years. PR card should renewed 6 months before it expires.
To renew your PR card, you must:
Submit the filled application forms with supporting documents ;
Include 2 photos that follows our specifications;
Pay the government fee.
